temple land use issue

The row of shops built, south of the bus terminus, has been rented out to the same tenants for more than 4 decades. This land appears to be registered as wet land with Hindu Religious Endowment department. The real use of the land is for Shops and the Electricity Department has permitted electricity to these shops. The shop is also residence of the shop owners in the evening.

Now, the villagers are trying to take back the temple land for larger good of the village. The current long term tenants are not prepared to quit with out a fight in the courts.

Meanwhile, the villagers stopped shopping at these shops - as there are other competing businesses in the neighborhood. The tenants are reasonably afluent and would like to keep the status quo so that they can live in the prime real estate for as long as they could. The business is just for prestige - not necessarily for profit these days.
