Kamanathar koil in Aragazhur

This temple should have been built in the later half of 12th century.
Kulothungan III kalvettus are there. Thirusutru madil and thirusutru
maligai are there. Karuvarai, Artha mandapam, Mugha manthapam, Maha
mantapam were built. The Gopuram of this temple was built in ancient
times. The Kalvetts describe the thirusutru madil as Ponn parapina
perumal thirumadil. On either side of the gopurams are 2 surya
mandapams. Kamanathar temple vimana was built of red bricks and
Sudhai. The vimanas have digbalars images and is of three tire and
also have stone images of dwara balakas. The Kalyana mandapam in the
second prahara also was built in ancient times. There is amman
temple on the north of Kamanathar koil and it has no kalvettus. But
in one of the Kamanathar koil kalvettu there is a mention of
Thirukamakota Nachiyar so therefore we can guess the devi temple was
established in 13th century.

Chozhiswarar koil is in the centre of the village. This temple is
in a ruined state and not available for worship. Karuvarai, Artha
mandapam, Mugha mandapam are available. It is bigger than Kamanathar
koil. This temple has only one kalvettu. In this Kalvettu this
temple is described as 'Thayinum nalla chozhiswaram'. The name
itself sufficiently talks the friendhip between Chozhars and
Bannars. One of the Bannar king had a title as 'Thayinum nallan'.
Bannar's name and chozhar's name are added to the name of the temple.
This reflects the friendliness shown by Bannars to chozhas. During
Kulothungan III period Ponn Parapina perumal Rajaraja
Vanakoovarayyan had been the commander in chief needs mention here.
In later years Bannars joined hands with the chozha's arch enemies
Pandiyars is a different story. But this temple is a symbol of the
friendship between Bannars and chozhars.Next to chozhiswaran koil is
an amman temple. This probably would have been built during 13th
century. This temple with Karuvarai, Artha mandapam, mugha mandapam
is in complete ruins. It is not available for worship. Both the
temples have no thirusutru madil.
